Travel G-spots

ON THE BLOG

This blog is a spin-off of a blog that never really took off.

At the core of that original blog lies the plan to fiercely document a 4×4 overland Silk Road Adventure of 2 geeks armed to the ‘t’ with gadgets and more obsessed about the gadgets than the challenges we may face along the Silk Road.

The details are sketchy at best. Ignorance and fearlessness in equal measure, will get us through. You will be wired on our antics via technology, enabled by the gadgets we will be surrounded with.

In the immediate term, the idea was to start documenting our next upcoming journey from Beijing to St. Petersburg on both the Trans-Mongolian and Trans-Siberian railway lines … in a less complicated and aggressive manner.

This would not be out first attempt. We both bought the Moleskine Travel Journal for our Balkans trip in 2010. It was further down the ‘value chain’ if you see the trend.

That original blog we had envisage would be the medium to bridge the gap and will start off with previous travels we have done together or individually… organically growing to fulfill the upcoming sojourns.

Optically tuned, it was planned that “HER entries” will be visually captivating, featuring various illustrators’ work.

Being a man of science, technology and finance, “HIS entries” will remain succinct, punctuated with bullets and accompanied by numbers.

Together we will merge into this ‘space’ without losing our true individualized selves.

why had I thot that that original blog would work?

I’ve not “spoken” to him for days. BBM that is. When the  came in.

The suggestion push my geek buttons straight into action; itching to dash back home from work, whip the MacBook Pro open and start!

See, given that I am somewhat a “dog-with-the-bone” type, I am counting on his vision, goal and ambition to get us to the finish line. That said, it will be the 4×4 overland Silk Road Adventure, not necessarily that blog. I suspect I am more of the writer … he the planner.

What if the finish line is not met?

It will be met. And the way I look at it, I love the idea. I love programming, designing and well, blogging.

I have not minded that my Teddy had morphed into him across a handful of locations scattered across the globe. I have not minded sharing “my space”. I can’t think of a better person to start that pet project with, and in a strange way appreciate the fact that the plan will come to fruition somehow despite our combined ignorant, naive and klutzy ways. Oh yeah, our klutzy ways is the biggest give away of our geeky selves besides my huge plastic rimmed glasses and his various souvenir shops round neck t-shirts!

On the idea of that original blog?

I was visualising Ewan McGregor-Charles Bowman type of story telling. I gravitate towards Charles Bowman. But this statement is of no relevance.

Sure. There will be moment where we’ll be recording our own personal travel chronicles.

Our own gadgets … oh, definitely our own gadgets as even though we’re both geeks, we are obsessed with different stuff. In not-so-simple Latin, “travel” = family, “geek” = genus and “whatever obsession” = species

Hence, to me that original blog will center around TRAVEL with the unique proposition arising from the prose of 2 Geeks who speaks about their G-Spots – from location, gears and gadgets to mishaps though “geeky eyes”.

I suppose you could say my early suspicions of ” I suspect I am more of the writer … he the planner.” came true even before the initial planning for the our next upcoming journey from Beijing to St. Petersburg on both the Trans-Mongolian and Trans-Siberian railway lines happened.

To remain cordial let’s just say the planning for Trans-Siberia have begun and as is, the prospect of the trip hangs in a vacuum of tension with me wanting to do it Eastbound in Winter {to see Siberia as it should be seen} and him wanting to do Westbound in Summer … me wanting to spend more time in the openness of Mongolia in a Ger tent, he preferring to be in the capital city even if it’s a hotch potch of bad development and an architectural insult … me wanting to experience some locals on the train, he wanting space and privacy by upgrading to a 2-berth compartment all the way …

Oh well …

keep calm and travel on

NEW HERE?

[CAVEAT] this is not a Travel Guide Blog

This is a blog that talks about my travel and any travel related things I stumble upon, tickles my fancy and feel the need to share.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Well, there’s no hard and fast rules here.

And that has a whole lot to do with my inability to organize things … or rather follow through with things.

I generally have a cluttered heart and a innate urgency to sort through clutter for patterns … and wham! bang! get the results out … I just don’t like cleaning up after that. As a result what you’ll get here is an incoherent flow of entries. But over the years {thanks to possibly early onset of dementia} I have trained myself to  file pretty well – though not as well as my admin assistant {which explains why she has the job of admin assistant and I have the job of going through clutter}.

So, the best guide is to go through the CATEGORIES at the bottom of the blog. Trust me, it will save you a heck of a lot of headache and time.

In time to come as this blog develops, I will probably set up some guidelines around themes/ threads around which I write here.

And if you need to know anything travel related about me {in a brief} it’s in the ABOUT ME section on the left hand side of this blog. Hang on, if you’re reading this post/ page, you’ll know where to find it.

However, if you are compelled to know more about me and my daily silliness, joys, rantings … blah, blah, blah … the right blog is here: {the other 1/2 of}.Haque. It also leads you to a wider aspect of my life – professional career, press and media appearances, being a social-preneur and the business itself … simply put, anything random about my life minus {the other 1/2 of}.Haque which will not? or is yet to be? revealed.
